Study Hall Weekly Sessions šŸ“š

7 Mar 2024 by Tyson Svoboda

Quick note I’d like to make sure all are aware of as we continue through the season if a player is told to attend our morning Study Hall sessions for missing schoolwork this is MANDATORY.

My apologies if this was not clear when we started practices this Spring, but after a few weeks of consistent no shows we must act as a team. Accountability is a leadership quality the coaches preach to players and want to be echoed throughout our roster as players go through our program year after year.

Players will now be suspended a half of play (2 Quarters) of the next scheduled game for skipping a Study Hall without notice to Coach Matt.

Study Hall sessions will be communicated with the players on our list as we receive them from both schools. Thank you to those students that have made their Study Hall times (and from what I’ve heard these sessions are very beneficial with cleaning up those late assignments). Times and locations will be listed below for weekly sessions along with Coach Matt’s information…

Coach Matt Shrader | (402) 719-8014

Tuesday’s | 7:00 AM | GHS Students | Gretna High School
Thursday’s | 7:00 AM | GEHS Students | Gretna East High School

I want to make very clear why this is important for our young team and what we are looking to accomplish for the future. We’ve all heard the term ā€œStudent Athleteā€ and there’s a reason why the word ā€œStudentā€ comes first. As we grow as a program and Lacrosse becomes more of a priority for schools with sanctioning on the horizon… I have always had the mindset of treating Lacrosse like any other sport/activity inside the schools. Football, Baseball, Basketball etc. it doesn’t matter, I will always hold our team and sport to that standard. Now in tandem with taking pride in athletics and training must include taking pride in our academics as well. This helps keep our program in good standing with both schools and administration that can open even more doors for our team down the road. Administration has already gone above and beyond to accommodate a brand-new program with practicing on turf early in the season and weigh room access… which is extremely rare with teams not only in our league but across Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and the Dakotas. Our sport will continue to be under a microscope as we build for the coming years, and I would like to present the best possible reputation on and OFF the field within our community when talking about Gretna Lacrosse.

I understand illness, travel, and many other factors can play into missing work and there are unique situations that will always come up. All our coaching staff is asking is players take that accountability and keep open communication with coaches. That includes communicating with teammates to coordinate rides or any other factor that may make attending a Study Hall possible one day a week in the morning before school. Coach Matt has taken the time out of his morning to make this possible at both schools for players so please take advantage of this opportunity.

Any questions please feel free to reach out and we will do our best to assist.

Thanks!
